Primary Election
The Primary Election is an election to determine which candidates will qualify for the General Election for a given party. In Iowa you must be a member of the political party of which you wish to vote for in order to participate. This is known as a "closed primary." The primary election is held on the 1st Tuesday following the 1st Monday in June of each even-numbered year.
Candidates
In the Primary Election, you will vote for one party only: Democratic or Republican. All candidates in Woodbury County are listed below. Find Your Polling Place for a list of candidates on your ballot. The winner of the primary will become the candidate to represent their party in the November General Election.

The Primary Election is your opportunity to vote for the candidate that you would like to move forward to the November General Election. You may only vote in one party's primary.
How?
Beginning 3-24-2026, call 712-279-6465 to request your Absentee Ballot Request Form.
- Return your Absentee Ballot Request Form to the Auditor's Office by 5-18-2026.
- Ballots will be mailed beginning 5-13-2026.
Note: Voted absentee ballots must be received in our office by 8:00 pm on Election Day (6-2-2026).
Early In-Person Voting at the Auditor's Office
Vote in person at the Woodbury County Auditor's Office.
- Wednesday, May 13, through Monday, June 1, 2026 | 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
- Saturday, May 30, voting closes earlier at 4:00 pm
Election Day In-Person Voting at Your Polling Location
Vote at your polling location on Election Day.
