2026 City of Salix Special Election

Special Election
A Special Election is any election that is not regularly scheduled. A special election may be held for any purpose authorized or required by law; often to fill a vacancy or for a public measure.
A special election will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, to fill a vacancy on the Salix City Council. All eligible electors residing within the City of Salix are eligible to vote.

Candidate Filing Information

The candidate filing window is currently open. To qualify for the ballot, candidates must meet the following criteria and deadlines:

  • Eligibility: Candidates must be eligible electors living in the City of Salix both at the time of filing nomination papers and at the time of the election.
  • Requirements: Candidates must file a Nomination Petition and an Affidavit of Candidacy.
  • Signature Requirement: Nomination Petition must have a minimum of 10 Precinct 33 eligible voter signatures.
  • Filing Deadline: All completed nomination papers must be submitted to the County Auditor’s Office (620 Douglas St, Rm 103, Sioux City) no later than Friday, July 24, 2026, at 5:00 PM.

Three Ways to Vote

Voters have three options to cast their ballot for this special election:

1. Vote by Mail (Absentee Ballot)

  • Request Window: Eligible voters may request a mail-in absentee ballot from now through Monday, August 3, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
  • Mailing Date: Ballots requested early will begin mailing on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
  • How to Request:
    • By Phone: Call the Woodbury County Auditor’s Office at 712-279-6465 to request a form by mail. Note: The request must be made verbally by the eligible voter themselves.
    • Online/Print: Download and print the official application form from the Secretary of State Office website.
  • Submission: Return completed and signed request forms by mail or in person to:

2. Early In-Person Voting

  • Dates & Times: Wednesday, July 29 through Monday, August 17, 2026 (Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM).
  • Location: Woodbury County Courthouse, Auditor’s Office (620 Douglas St, Rm 103, Sioux City).

3. Election Day Voting

  • Date & Times: Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
  • Location: Eligible voters residing in Precinct 33 (Salix) must vote at Salix City Hall, 319 Tipton Street. Precinct 33 is the only precinct participating in this special election.
